Access to Avignon
Many trains arrive in Avignon TGV station: Paris (2H40), Roissy – Charles de Gaulle (3H00), Lyon (1H), Marseille (0H30), Lille (4H15), Rennes, Nantes, Nice … Some direct international connections are also available from Brussels (5H00), Geneva (3H00), Barcelona, Madrid … From the Avignon TGV railway station, a shuttle train (TER “La Virgule”) joins the station “Avignon Centre” in 5 minutes, see the 2016 schedule on the TER PACA site.
The Marseille-Provence airport is 45 minutes drive from Avignon. It offers 120 national and international destinations; you can find more information about available connections on the airport website. From the airport, a free shuttle bus brings you to the station “Vitrolles Aéroport” in a 5 minute ride. The airport Avignon Provence, located 8km from the center of Avignon, also offers some international flights, especially from England. See the direct or connected flights on the airport website. From the airport, you can reach the city center by bus or taxi.
Access by car is possible:
- by highway A7 (exit Avignon-Sud, from the direction of Aix-en-Provence or Marseille). Follow the direction of the city center at the entrance of Avignon, then the direction of the University and finally the parking “des Italiens et de l’université”.
- by highway A7 (exit Avignon-Nord, from directions of Lyon or Carpentras). Follow the direction of the city center at the entrance of Avignon. Then, arriving at the ramparts, take the direction Carpentras-Orange, then the direction of the University and finally the parking “des Italiens et de l’université”.
- by highway A9 (from the direction of Nimes or Montpellier). Take the direction of Carpentras at the entrance of Avignon, then the direction of the parking “des Italiens et de l’université”.

Access to the university
The University (74 rue Louis Pasteur, GPS coordinates: 43 ° 57’00.9 “N 4 ° 49’05.2” E) is a 25 minutes’ walk from the central train station. The city map is downloadable from the tourist office. You can also take bus lines, visit the TCRA, or Velopop bikes. Access to the campus is possible either by the Pasteur entrance or by the ramparts, from “Boulevard Limbert”.
